Embracing AI
My journey to AI fluency at an individual level has been both fun and frustrating at times. I learn by doing and have spent a lot of time leveraging LLMs in different scenarios combined with learning from others in this space. I've attended numerous online workshops and webinars focused on generating real value from AI. Currently, this has led me to three areas that I now consistently leverage AI for:
Elevated Thinking
I have found AI superb at elevating my thinking on whatever topic I am diving into. In order to get this value, I had to learn the following:
  • Foundation: setting up the foundational settings in the LLM was key to reducing context and prompting time. This helps filter out bias, aligns with the language you want, and ensures the LLM is not simply sycophantic.
  • Context and outcomes: context is key to ensuring AI is grounded in your situation. The clearer I am with the desired outcome, the better the output.
  • Prompting: with the foundation and context, prompting has become much easier and more targeted, to drive the right conversations and outcomes.
Getting Stuff Done
Once I had the basics going, I then moved into leveraging AI to augment or complete certain tasks. Here are a few examples:
  • Job search and applications: I use AI heavily in looking for my next role, as well as in the application process. I have a few Gems setups that enable me to do this quickly and with high quality.
  • Document generation: in several scenarios, I've needed to create documents. I simply leveraged similar documents as a baseline, coupled with the right context and prompt, to get high quality first drafts.
  • Repeated analysis: I have setup Gems for analysis work that need to be repeated on a regular basis e.g. monthly or QTR.
Analysis For Insights
Using AI for structured and unstructured data analysis has been a game-changer, especially in operation roles, where disparate data sources make insights difficult to generate. Some example analysis I have done:
  • Partner lifecycle analysis: generated several insights on the lifecycle of a new partner to inform what and when to communicate with them.
  • Feedback analysis: analyzed unstructured feedback from several sources which developed several insights that drove program changes.
  • Content consumption analysis: developed content consumption framework and analysis which had major impact on future content development efforts.
My AI Toolset
In addition to attending a "Thinking With AI" workshop, I have attended several other online courses and webinars to accelerate my learning of AI and how it can be leveraged on both a personal and professional level. Here are some services I have leveraged, or plan to leverage, soon.
I am in either, early days, or have the plan to explore these services soon.
